Permkin Merfins - Review by Jumhed, 29th September 2006

I've listened to the record 3 times now. Diving straight in to my opinion of it; First Impressions; Love the backing vocals. They're good man. They really add colour to the tunes.

First song "What If?" is good too, demands to be listened to, and is singalongable (is that a word?) "What if your deepest fears, became realised?" Well, I'd be in jail getting bummed. "Be Myself" is good too, and catchy. Catchy as SARS. These songs are well written and thought out. I bet SB are good live. Good basslines, and great drumming again.

Here are the bad points, and I'm not going to hold back; 11 songs. Too long for a demo. If you'd concentrated on 3 songs, SB could've made them super-smashing sexy. That said, from a songwriting point of view, SB's songs sound finished. This leads me on to my next point. If only 3 songs were recorded, more time could've been spent on the sound, because the guitar sound is rotten! It's actually given me a headache, which is a real shame. There is some good stuff here, man.

Lots of breaks in the songs, not always a bad thing. I loved the photo in the sleeve! Cracked me up!

To sum up; Good songwriting and songs, good playing, good b/v's, horrible guitar sound.
